Welcome to Kiss my Smoke. I’m Kim, the resident grill master at the B household. I’ve been wo-manning the grill for over 20 years now. I got my start quite by accident really. Like many gals I loved the idea of having a day or two a week during the summer where I did not have to cook. Hubs would head out to the grill with whatever I would prep. He would load up the grill, then he would get bored and wander off. I would see smoke overtaking my yard and have to run outside to see what caught on fire. Hubs could be found playing with the kids, taking a dip in the pool, weeding the yard, or talking to neighbours on the other side of the house. In an effort to not eat blackened food all summer I decided to take a stab at grilling. The rest is history. I found I had both a knack and a passion for grilling. As with many happy accidents my foray into grilling turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Some of you may know me from my other site, Cravings of a Lunatic. I’ve been blogging since 2011 and love the process of sharing my recipes and my life with my readers. If you’re new, you will learn quickly that a sense of humour is paramount when visiting me. Life is meant to be enjoyed and I make the most of every single day. There’s always lots of laughter and shenanigans when I’m around. There’s never a dull moment in our household, just the way I like it.
You can expect recipes along with the shenanigans, three times a week. Possibly more throughout prime grilling season. During the slower times you can count on a posting schedule of Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday. Some folks grill year round. We grill less in winter since we live in Canada. It gets freaking cold here people. I can still be found out at the grill in winter in my snowmobile boots, parka and snowsuit quite often. I only draw the line during frostbite weather, and I mean, who wouldn’t.
My style leans toward hot and fast grilling since I have a family who tend to act like ravenous wolves most days. Low and slow methods will make an appearance here from time to time as well. We eat lots of beef in the summer so you can expect lots of great Canadian Beef recipes. There will be pork recipes, chicken recipes, veggie recipes, fruit recipes, and I’ll even show you how to make some amazing dessert recipes that will rock your world. Along the way I’ll also show you some amazing tips and tricks to help you get your grill on without fear and without dried out food. There’s lots of little things you can do to guarantee grill success every time you have a cook out. For me I am so happy there is no limit to what can be cooked on the grill.
I hope to inspire other woman not to be intimidated by the grill. It’s not scary once you take the bull by the horns. Once you start grilling on your own you will not want to stop. There’s a sense of accomplishment that comes with conquering that fear.
Never fear boys, there’s going to be lots in store for you too. This is not a girl only zone. I can hold my own in the grill world and hope to be welcomed with open arms by the guys as well. Not literally though, hugging is for sissy girls.
So buckle up folks. This is going to be so much fun. I am so stoked to have you along for the journey. It’s going to be paved with charcoal, rubs, mopping, smoking and even some sizzle. And don’t forget the sass!
