Grilled Steak Salad with Homemade Balsamic Sauce is the perfect healthy main dish recipe for summer, and beyond. We used leftover boneless rib steak for this delicious salad.
I’m all about making delicious grilled steak salads with homemade balsamic sauce on weekdays for a healthy quick and easy meal. For real though, I’m just not one of the girls who likes a bland salad with no meat in it.
For those who don’t know me, let me introduce myself. Hi, my name is Kim and I’m a steakaholic. I’d apologize but I don’t even feel bad. I’m too busy shoving Steak Salad in my piehole. I mean look at this salad, who wouldn’t want to shove copious amounts of it in their piehole? It’s so good.
When we make steak we make a lot of it. The reason for that is simple. We all like our beef cooked to a different temperature, so I’ve gotten quite good at timing them on the grill. So we buy big packages of steak so I can cook different steaks to each person’s desired “done”. Hubs has been liking his pretty rare, I have been digging medium rare and mini-me likes hers well done. My son is out in Alberta and is off beef right now. What a time to discover you have issues with beef, right as you settle into Alberta which is famous for its beef. Poor B-Dude.
Luckily I can eat beef. I love a good steak. There is nothing quite like steak done on the grill. It’s so versatile. You can eat it up straight up, or turn it into salads, and stir fries. I whipped up a huge batch of steak one day and I used the leftovers the next day for this amazing steak salad.
For this salad I used leftovers from the Grilled Boneless Rib Steak I made previously. You can substitute other types of steak if you like. I’ve done salads with everything from flank, to tenderloin, to blade. Choose the cut you can like best at the price point you can afford. It’s it’s a tougher cut of beef marinate it before cooking. Simple solution to keep you eating steak on a budget. We used to only buy blade. It was all we could afford to use, and quite frankly it’s super versatile and flavourful, you just have to cook it properly. The bottom line is any steak can be amazing if you cook it correctly. So feel free to substitute if you need to.
I am not a huge gravy person but I love a good balsamic sauce. This one is simple and just based on my own personal taste. I have a bit of a sweet tooth so I tend to always hit most things with a little sugar. You can change it to your own taste quite simple. If you like a runny sauce only cook it briefly, if you want a thicker sauce you will need to cook it longer. You can amp it up or dial it down however you like. This one is just simple and quick since it was going over leftovers. A lot of times I’ll add aromatics and strain them out but I not for something like this.
Hope you enjoy this one. It’s a favourite around our house.

Grilled Steak Salad with Balsamic Sauce
Ingredients
For the Balsamic Sauce:
- 1 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tbsp butter (heaping)
Instructions
- Preheat grill to medium heat.
- I have my leftovers already sliced and ready to go. Allow then to warm up before grilling, Never grill cold meat. It should be left out 20 to 30 minutes prior to grilling.
- Place a cookie sheet or grill stone on the grill. Drizzle some olive oil on it. Drop the steak down and stir it around until it warms up. It's leftovers so it only takes a few minute. If you want to cook your steak fresh for this go to my Boneless Rib Steak Recipe to learn how I grilled mine to perfection.
- Pull off the grill with tongs and set aside.
For the Balsamic Sauce:
- You can cook this on the grill or indoors on the stove. Your call. I did mine on the grill.
- Add the balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, worcestershire sauce and spices to a medium small saucepan. Cook over medium heat (direct) for about 1 to 2 minutes, allowing it to bubble it. Then reduce heat (move to indirect heat) and allow to simmer for about 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Time cooked depends on how thin or thick you like your sauce. Add the butter and whisk until smooth.
Putting it together:
- Lay the salad greens down on a platter, toss radishes around over top. Lay thinly sliced beef over top. Drizzle with balsamic sauce.
- Serve with a big leftovers rule the world smile!

I could probably give up meat if it weren’t for steak! Probably. I eat a crazy amounts of salads and people think that I am bonkers for veggies but the truth is, I eat salads with steak. Mine don’t look this good though and I have GOT to try that balsamic sauce!

Me too. Every time we talk about it, and we do quite often, steak is always the deal breaker.

I am carnivore, hear me roar. Like you, I love a good steak. Unlike you, I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, so I’m glad you provided ways I can change-up that amazing looking sauce. 🙂
Kim says
Ha, I really can’t help myself. I tend to be a carb loving, carnivore who loves sweets. I’m an odd duck, no wonder I can never lose weight though.
